2026 Beginner/Intermediate
Basket Classes
March 14 & 15, 2026 1 PM to 4 PM Each Day at Yosemite Gateway Art Center
40982 HWY, 41, Oakhurst, CA
All classes are $150.00 per person
We will be concentrating on wrapped centers, different shaped wood centers, wrapped coils, designs with wrapping, adding embellishments (beads, arrowheads, etc.) to the basket, coiling with antlers or decorative pieces of wooden branches.
If you have antlers, beads, arrowheads, etc. that you would like to use on your basket, be sure to bring them with you. I will have some beads, antlers, arrowheads, etc. to purchase, at an extra charge. Different shaped wood centers will be available at an extra charge, some of the selection will be pine; Cedar, Myrtle Wood, or Manzanita.
Extra pine needles will be available for purchase, or you may purchase extras on Etsy or EBAY if you feel you will need more than will be included with your workshop kit. For Beginners and Intermediate basket makers the Georgia or Florida long leaf pine needles are easier as they are a good 4" to 6"longer than any other pine needles. If you do purchase extra needles be sure to clean them and condition them. You may email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to give you instructions.
Anyone wanting to paint their wood centers should purchase centers at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Joann's or contact me at least two weeks prior to the first day of the workshop. Manzanita is not a good choice to paint as it is a very oily wood and the paint tends to peel off, especially if you are using acrylics. You can always slice your own centers if you have a saw available or know a woodworker.
The Cost includes the following: Pine Needles (enough to complete a small/medium Basket, 2 Hair Fascinators, 2 Coasters or Memory Catcher) Small SHARP Scissors Small Needle Nose Pliers Metal Thimble Blunt Nose or Sharp Needle Artificial Sinew (enough to complete the basket) Roll of Athletic Tape Plastic Straw (if you want a gauge to keep the coils even, this makes it easier for some people)
